Primavera Yogaflow
Yoga hasn't been an insider's tip for a long time. Every tenth German has already tried it. More than 2.5 million people exercise on the mat several times a week in Germany. In the meantime every community college has at least one yoga course and special studios are now also available in smaller cities. But what exactly is yoga? In the Western world, many people think that it is only an old Indian form of gymnastics. If you practice regularly, you increase mobility, strength and gain an increased body sensation. For this reason, yoga is a popular compensation for sitting activities in the office. However, it is much more than just a movement instruction. Yoga in Sanskrit means as much as “tying up, tensing or harnessing“. One of the best known definitions is found in the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most important writings of Hinduism. It says: ”Yoga is the wisdom of acting – yoga is the conquest of the wayward impetuous spirit – yoga is oneness with the self. “
In India, yoga has been practiced for over 2,000 years as a holistic exercise path. It is counted among the six classical schools of Indian philosophy. Outside of Asia, yoga is primarily known for physical exercises. The main focus here is on taking and holding various positions, for example the tree (standing on one leg) or the headstand for advanced persons. When practicing correct breathing is particularly important. For this reason, breathing exercises (Pranayamas) are also a central aspect of any yoga tradition. ”Prana“ means life energy. Conscious breathing is therefore often regarded as a link between physical and mental processes.
An aspect of yoga, which is often unknown in the West, are the cleansing exercises (Kriyas), such as nasal lavages, lung cleansing by rapid breathing, enemas and various techniques for detoxification. Some yoga traditions consider the Kriyas to be indispensable, while they only play a subordinate role in others. In addition to the physically perceptible disciplines, emphasis was also put on concentration exercises and meditation in India. The spiritual aspect of yoga is also reflected in the fact, that the practitioners critically question themselves in every condition of life. Through this constant self-examination, the practitioner should gain a higher consciousness. It also includes studying ancient spiritual and philosophical texts. The different aspects of yoga are differently weighted in each school. The strenuous Ashtanga Yoga, for example, focuses on dynamic body exercises, while Kundalini Yoga is a little calmer. Here, physical exercises are combined with relaxation techniques. Meditation and the saying and singing of mantras are also part of the program.
No matter which yoga style you choose, in the beginning you do not need more than a mat and comfortable clothes. However, it is recommended to learn exercises not from a book or the internet but from a trained yoga teacher. Many Europeans underestimate their learning needs in terms of balance and agility. However, if you keep up a few months, you can look forward to a new body sensation and more vitality. In India, many yogini and yogi practice in an Ashram. These religious centers of meditation are often hundreds of years old. Their weathered walls and the smell of fine incense offer, of course, a different atmosphere than your own living room or seminar rooms.
