Koawach Organic Cocoa
The Giza Pyramids cast a spell over people for over 4,000 years. For the largest of them Pharaoh Cheops let use over 3 million limestone blocks. With a proud height of 146.6 meters it was the tallest building in the world for four millennia. For a long time it was believed in Europe that there couldn’t be anything comparable in the world. However, the ancient Egyptians were not the only pyramid builders. 11,000 km from Giza the mysterious temple-pyramids of the Maya stick out from the jungle. Especially on the Yucatan peninsula and in Guatemala of today the mysterious people left marks. They cleared the jungle and built towns of stone that overshadowed the major European cities of that time. Because of the huge size of the Mayan cities, they needed complex administrative structures and a highly efficient agriculture.
The engineers of the Maya invented a kind of concrete, which allowed the construction of massive stone terraces, temples and of course also the pyramids. From the high terraces astronomers were able to monitor the state of the celestial bodies, the orbit of the moon and the position of the sun. Through their complex astronomical knowledge, the priests were able to predict solar and lunar eclipses. This knowledge made a great impression on the population and strengthened the power of the rulers. Besides astronomy the scholars of the Maya excelled especially in mathematics. They developed a number system with 20 as the base number – probably because this was the sum of all fingers and toes. Even the number zero was known which was depicted with a shell. The extensive knowledge of mathematics and astronomy were incorporated in the Mayan calendar. Although the individual Mayan cities were each other’s enemies, they were all based on the same system. The historical calendar system was composed of several single, complementary calendars for civil and ritual purposes. Because (according to our time reckoning) the calendar ended on December 21st 2012, a theory occurred in the 1970s that the Maya had calculated the end of the world on this precise day...
For several years, the number of archaeologists who see the Maya as the first Mesoamerican culture with its own scripture increases. As far developed their civilization was, as enigmatic it remains until today. Despite the most modern research methods it has not yet been clarified why the civilization of the Maya perished. In the late 9th century it disappeared almost overnight. The flourishing cities were abandoned and swallowed by the jungle after a few years. But why? Did the astronomers of the Maya predict a bad omen, due to which the population fled? The classical theories of wars or epidemics do not answer why the cities were not repopulated later. To date, the Mayan ruins have not revealed this secret. Moreover, we still know relatively little about the everyday life of the Maya. But one thing is evident: Cocoa beans played an important role in their culture. Already 2,500 years ago the Maya cultivated large cocoa plantations. The precious bean was processed to a foamy hot beverage and flavoured with chili, among other things. Apart from high feasts the ”cacao“ was reserved to the priests and the ruling caste. The beverage with the invigorating effect was so popular that cocoa cups were even placed in the grave with the dead.
However, it is a common misconception that the Maya are extinct. Their descendants today live in southern Mexico and Guatemala. And they still know more than 1,000 different recipes for cocoa. But most of the cocoa beverages in Europe have not much to do with these recipes. Here the sugar dominates; often there virtually is nothing left of the typically-strong cocoa flavor.
The organic cocoa creations by Koawach take a different path. There, the precious cocoa beans may develop their full power. Guarana provides for additional boost.
