Davert Organic Rice

:

Asian proverbs have been bundling the wisdom of the common people for millennia. No wonder that many proverbs focus on the daily struggle for food. ”No treasure is worth as much as rice“ is such a basic truth. Up until today, the translation of the word ”rice“ is in many Asian countries synonymous with ”food“ or ”meal“. Nowhere else has the cultivation of rice shaped history, culture and the landscape as strongly as in East and Southeast Asia. In today's India and China, wild rice was already collected in the Stone Age. The wild rice was probably domesticated about 8,000 years ago by the inhabitants of the Pearl River delta in China. This makes rice one of the oldest crops in the world. Over the millennia, it became a basis of life for the high cultures of the Far East. Rice is described in numerous myths and legends as the ”gift of the gods“.

According to an Indian legend, a long, long time ago, people did not yet have to work in the rice fields. When the rice grains were ripe, they rolled into the villages by themselves. The people only had to carry them to their storehouses. In those days, an individual rice grain was still so big that an adult could feel fully sated after eating one grain. At that time a widow with her daughter lived in a very small village. In order to store as much rice as possible, the two decided to demolish their old storehouse and build a larger one. But building it took longer than expected. When the rice came to the village, the two were not finished yet. The widow got angry and shouted at the rice grains ”Couldn't you have waited in the field until I am finished? I really do not need you here right now.“ But the rice grains did not want to leave. So the widow took a piece of wood and beat the first rice grain. The rice grain burst into a thousand pieces and shouted ”From this day on, we will wait in the fields until someone comes who wants us.“ And since then people have to go to the rice fields to collect the rice by themselves.

So far, no evidence has been found for ancient giant rice grains. However, in many places the rice harvest is still as labor-intensive as in the past millennia. Even today, much of the world's rice production is planted and harvested by hand. And rice is very diverse. It is believed that there are up to 100,000 rice varieties in the world. If you would like to try a part of this variety, you should get to know Davert's Organic Rice assortment.

Basmati rice is one of the most popular types of rice in Asian cuisine. The long, fine grains of rice swell during cooking, but remain fluffy and thin. Arborio rice is suitable for the typical creamy consistency of a risotto. The thick, white grains absorb the flavour of the broth perfectly. Jasmine rice is mainly used as a garnish for Chinese or Thai dishes, but also for salads and desserts due to its intensely pleasant aroma. Nerone rice is a real speciality of Italian cuisine. Davert Black Nerone Rice impresses with its striking, natural black colour and its nutty, slightly sweet flavour. Davert wholemeal round grain brown rice is a good choice for Mediterranean stir-fries and as a side dish. And for dessert? The creamy rice pudding from Davert can be enjoyed in many ways: in winter with cinnamon and sugar, in summer with fresh fruit.

An old Chinese proverb says: "If you eat vegetables, you become strong. If you eat meat, you become brave. If you eat rice, you become wise. If you eat air, you become holy". With Davert you can discover how multifaceted organic rice may taste.
