De Cecco Organic Penne Rigate n° 41. In Italian, the term penne refers to the goose feather (penna d'oca), which used to be used for writing and was cut at an angle to create a fine point. The type of pasta with the characteristic diagonal cut of the quill comes in two varieties: Penne Lisce (smooth surface) and Penne Rigate (ribbed surface). Penne Rigate is ideal for preparing oven-baked dishes and pasta dishes with sauces, with pork or beef. Of course, penne also goes well with Mediterranean vegetable sauces. They are classically served with sugo all'arrabbiata.
