Years of travelling in India and a love of the Ayurvedic way of life inspired Doris Maiwald to found a company for natural foods in 1988: she opened Higher Taste, a small vegetarian organic specialist shop in Heidelberg in south-west Germany. The next step was the Govinda brand. The name Govinda comes from the Sanskrit "go vinda m" and means: someone who keeps cows - master of the cows, but also protector of the world. Govinda is also one of the many Indian gods. According to Indian mythology, however, he not only looks after cows, but all living beings. Govinda's first big breakthrough came with the soap nut. Doris Maiwald learnt about it in India and brought it back to Germany: an ecological revolution. Washing without harmful substances, using only the power of nature - something that had never been done before. Over the next few decades, the Govinda brand grew continuously. It moved several times and kept developing new products. Only one thing has remained the same: the values. With love and passion, Govinda stands for ecologically sound products, a life close to nature, social commitment and tasty, natural treats. And above all: for innovative products that many people do not yet know, but should definitely get to know.
