Fontaine Mackerel Fillets in Organic Sunflower Oil. Fontaine relies on gentle fishing methods and strictly rejects longline and driftnet fishing. The Chilean jack mackerels (Latin name: Trachurus murphyi) are caught by fishermen in the Southeast Pacific (FAO 87) using gillnets and purse seining. This fishing method prevents unwanted fish species from being caught. The mesh size of the nets is prescribed and is large enough to allow young fish to slip through. This traditional fishing with small boats (max. catch 2 tons) secures the mackerel population and thus also sustainable mackerel fishing.
