Sonett Mistelform
Silent and mysterious, it sits in leafless treetops and magically attracts the eye. In the faint light of dusk, its silhouette looks particularly unreal. No wonder it has been rumoured to have supernatural powers for thousands of years. In fact, there are countless myths and legends surrounding mistletoe. It is extraordinary in every respect. The evergreen plant does not flower in spring, but in winter. Depending on the species, it bears either white, red or yellow berries. Mistletoe is largely unaffected by insects and frost doesn't bother it much either. Instead of growing from the ground, it usually grows high up in the trees. This is due to small songbirds such as the mistletoe thrush, which feed on the sticky mistletoe berries. By excreting the seeds contained in the berries, they end up on the bark of other trees. If it is moist enough, a small seedling forms whose sucker penetrates the tree bark. Mistletoe is a so-called ‘semi-parasite’. It draws water and nutrient salts from its host (the tree) through its sucker process. However, it is also capable of photosynthesis: Its leaves convert carbon dioxide, light and water into glucose and oxygen. Mistletoe generally lives as long as its host - some specimens live for several hundred years.
Mistletoe has had countless names in the vernacular: Bocksbutter, Donarbesen, Druidenfuß or Hexenkraut are just a few of them. In the Middle Ages, it was hung over the door to ward off witches and evil spirits. But it was also coveted as a lucky charm and medicinal plant. Because it grew between heaven and earth, the Greeks, Celts and Germanic tribes saw it as a sign from the gods. According to Greek mythology, a magical sprig of mistletoe enabled Aeneas, the progenitor of the Romans, to return from the underworld after his escape from the burning city of Troy. And in Norse mythology, the invulnerable god Balder could only be murdered by an arrow of mistletoe. However, mistletoe was held in the highest esteem by the Celts. The Roman scholar Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD) reports that mistletoe was sacred to the Celtic tribes of Gaul. According to him, the Gauls called it ‘the all-healing’. Specimens that grew on winter oak trees were considered particularly magical. This is why the cutting of mistletoe was reserved exclusively for the druids. Clad in a white robe, they climbed trees to cut the precious mistletoe branches with a golden sickle. As the mistletoe was not allowed to touch the ground, it was collected with a white linen cloth. Little is known about the natural beliefs and rituals of the Druids. Most of what we know today was documented by the Romans. According to them, however, mistletoe played a central role both in the sacrificial cult and in the Druids' medicine.
Mistletoe has also been held in high regard as a medicinal plant since ancient times. Hippocrates, Hildegard von Bingen, Paracelsus and Sebastian Kneipp were convinced of its effectiveness. Sonett is also focussing on the special properties of mistletoe with its Mistletoe Form range. The basis of this body care range is a special process in which summer and winter mistletoe, i.e. leaf and berry, are brought into a rhythmic vibration and brought together. According to anthroposophical understanding, this combines opposites (e.g. summer/growth vs. winter/rest). A ‘balance’ can arise from these opposites, which is understood as a stimulus for inner balance. To make this possible, summer and winter mistletoe are not simply mixed. Instead, the two types of mistletoe pass through the Fluidic Oscillator, a technical device that sets liquids in controlled vortex movements. This creates a common substance that is more than the sum of the two individual parts.
Processing in the fluidic oscillator creates a new form of substance quality, which is understood as a stimulus to bring opposites together and find balance. Processed in massage oils and body lotions, the ‘new mistletoe’ can contribute to harmonisation and stimulate self-activation. The massage and care oils and lotions from Sonett Mistelform combine the power of mistletoe with the nourishing properties of organic plant oils - for a pleasant feeling on the skin, accompanied by the natural fragrance of essential oils. Treat your skin to soothing care with the harmonious character of mistletoe.
