Lavera Hand Care

:

Many people are still convinced that women talk much more than men. After all, this view was portrayed for decades in books and films. The laconic heroes of antiquity and the quiet cowboys in old western movies are usually opposed to chatty girls or tattletales. To find out the truth, in 1998 the University of Arizona launched a long-term test in Tucson. Over a period of several years, the verbal activity of 400 students from the US and Mexico was researched. After 6 years the result was clear: Men and women talk almost equally much, namely about 16,000 words per day. Of course, this result is on average, because there are also extremes. The quietest test person only said 500 words per day, the most talkative 47,000 – both test persons were men. But even with tens of thousands of words per day you will not automatically be better understood. Because most of our communication occurs through body language – of which an essential half are gestures and facial expressions. And also the sound of our voice has a significant impact on what is received by other people. In contrast, the pure content of our sentences only constitutes about 19%. This is the reason why many scientists today receive a communication training before they present their research results. The most brilliant insights are not convincing if they are presented with hanging shoulders, a downcast look and in a low voice.

People hard of hearing use the so-called sign language to communicate. It consists primarily of gestures, facial expressions and silently spoken words. However, it is not identical throughout the world. Just like every nation has developed its own language with its own words, also the gestures that are used, differ. Currently there are more than 130 different sign languages. In many of them there are even regional dialects used. When communicating with your hands you will therefore face the same challenges as with spoken words – at least when it comes to particularly strong dialects. But anyone who has ever been in a country whose language he does not speak, automatically starts to communicate more with gestures and facial expressions. Many travelers are surprised how well this works. But beware: Some gestures that have a positive meaning for us mean the total opposite elsewhere. The thumbs up is in most European countries a gesture of approval. However, in parts of Greece, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia it is an invitation to a rendezvous (and more). In Nigeria or Iran, on the other hand, it is understood as a terrible insult.

Whether you are just learning the sign language or simply often use your hands while talking, your counterpart will look closely at your fingers.
