Weleda Skin Food
Why do humans not have fur? Most researchers see the reason for our relative hairlessness in the active lifestyle of the first hunters and gatherers. While chimpanzees or gorillas climbed easily into the treetops and were able to eat their fill of the fruits undisturbed, our ancestors had to search for food close to the ground and often traveled long distances. As hunters, they often stalked their prey for hours. Since they were neither as fast as deer nor as strong as buffalos, endurance in hunting became the decisive factor. People owe the evolutionary decline of body hair to this fact. Without fur, the sweat can evaporate directly on the skin, thus providing a natural cooling effect. This protects the organism from overheating and enables impressive endurance performances.
For an adult, the average skin area is about 1.8 square meters. With a total weight of 10-14 kg, the skin is our largest organ. Essentially, it consists of three layers: epidermis, dermis and subcutis. The most important task of the skin is the barrier function, because our skin is the protective shield that protects the organism from external influences and dehydration. As the outermost layer, the epidermis plays a particularly important role. The contact surface with the environment never stands still. With each movement, it expands and contracts again. This is only possible because the skin moisture keeps it stretchy and supple. In the permanent regeneration process of the skin, the moisturising factors are constantly reproduced.
As long as the skin was protected from direct sun and cold wind, it was able to regenerate well for thousands of years. Today, however, it is confronted with much more than just the weather. Higher ozone levels, industrial emissions, fine dust from road traffic and dry heating air pose new challenges. Even long hot showers, aggressive soaps and nicotine can deprive the skin of valuable moisture. A lack of skin moisture can cause a feeling of tension, chapped skin and even itching.
To support the skin during regeneration there are countless lotions, oils, fluids and creams today. But sometimes dry skin does not really seem to get satisfied despite creaming. For these cases Weleda has developed the series Skin Food. Its unique composition is based on the calming effect of herbal extracts of pansies, rosemary, chamomile blossoms and calendula flowers. With the Skin Food products, dry to very dry skin as well as heavily stressed body parts e.g. knees and elbows are specifically nourished.
The Weleda Skin Food Skin Cream provides long-lasting moisture for stressed and dry skin parts. The rich cream is well-absorbed and supports the regeneration of the skin barrier with soothing extracts of pansies, chamomile and calendula.
