Weleda Calendula Baby Care

:

It's always a miracle when a baby comes into this world. After nine months in the mother's protective belly the little persons suddenly face a whole new environment. They explore the new, still unknown world mainly by skin contact. However, the skin must first learn how to deal with it properly. A newborn therefore needs one thing especially: warmth and closeness. For many native tribes the transition phase from being protected by the mother's womb to exploring the outside world is especially important. In the first months after birth the babies are often being carried by their mothers in special cloths close to the body. In the Western world those baby slings get more and more popular among parents, too. By the loving touch of their parents, the newborn feels that it is cared for. This creates a foundation of security and confidence which is crucial for the further development of the child.

The newborn receives almost all external stimuli with his or her skin. The skin is at this time the linking sensory organ between the inside and outside: the infant can feel touch, pain, temperature changes or different materials very clearly. In this state, the skin is still substantially thinner than that of an adult. The skin surface is, in relation to the body weight, much greater and the fat tissue in the subcutaneous layer is not fully developed yet. Also, the sebaceous and sweat glands as well as the protective acid mantle have to slowly get used to their function outside the womb. This is why babies cannot fully regulate their body temperature by themselves and cool down easily. At birth, a baby is still covered in the so-called vernix caseosa. It is built up from the 17th week of pregnancy on and protects the fetus from infection. As soon as the vernix caseosa is used up, the delicate skin needs a nourishing cover.

In anthroposophy, the organism is seen in a threefold approach. The system of nerves and senses thereby is connected to the metabolic and limb system through the respiration system and the cardiovascular system. This threefold approach is also evident within the skin. The heat-storing fat cells of the subcutis provide energy for metabolic processes. The epidermis with its delicate nerves enables different sensations. In between there lies the dermis with lots of blood vessels. The dermis makes mental and spiritual changes in the skin visible by letting it appear pale or reddened. The skin condition often tells a lot about the child's constitution: Everyone knows about the literally thin-skinned children. The fine, almost transparent skin colour of these children reflects their sensitive character.

To properly care for the delicate skin of children, Weleda developed the Calendula Baby and Child Care together with midwives. The orange calendula flowers contain an utmost amount of valuable substances that benefit the skin during their stages of development. The rich Weleda Calendula Baby Cream effectively protects against redness and soreness in the diaper area. For the daily care of babies and children the Calendula Care Cream is ideal. It keeps the skin velvety soft and soothes it with valuable plant extracts. The perfume free Calendula Care Oil is in addition to the skin care also suitable for cleaning the diaper area. In combination with soft, damp cloths, the oil is a good alternative to conventional wet wipes. For very young children, in particular, bathing is less about cleaning, but rather about relaxation. While the little ones are splashing happily in the bathtub, the Weleda Calendula Bath gently nourishes the skin. The Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash cleans delicate skin very gently and provides easy to comb baby hair. Almond and sesame oil moisturise. Mild, plant-based washing substances clean very gently and are extra mild to the eyes. The Weleda Calendula Face Cream provides velvety soft care for little faces and prevents the skin from drying out. Skin-related lanolin and organic almond oil protect the delicate facial skin. The rich, anhydrous Calendula Wind and Weather Protection Balm with a careful combination of active ingredients protects delicate faces and hands from rough weather.

The calendula contains precious ingredients that help build a resilient skin and surround it with a protective cover. Valuable extracts of organic calendula have a soothing and calming effect, while selected vegetable oils promote the development of the skin at the same time. The mild care of the Calendula care series by Weleda protects the delicate baby skin and adds a feeling of security.
