Urtekram Wild Lemongrass

:

Lemongrass has become an indispensable part of the cuisines of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia. Compared with lemon, the aroma is slightly softer and is accompanied by a light scent of roses. Lemongrass tubers round off the flavour of meat, fish and seafood dishes, but also taste good in soups, marinades and sauces. Tea made from the stalks of lemongrass is appreciated in Thai folk medicine because of its positive effect on the inner felling of wellbeing.

In Europe, it was not the cooks, but the perfumers, who first were interested in lemongrass. In the late 17th century, French perfumers began to import distilled oils from lemongrass for fresh and vitalising new fragrance compositions. In Asia, the essential oils of the plant are used for producing natural remedies, but also as a pleasant fragrance to keep insects away. Instead of washing themselves with soap and water, many European aristocrats preferred to use powder and perfume at that time. The demand for new and exotic fragrances was correspondingly high. Only in the 19th century, when the bath tub has established itself, cleanliness was considered as noble.

Botanically lemongrasses belong to the sweet grass family (Poaceae). So far, about 55 different species are known. Most of them can be found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. Many lemongrass species are suited for the extraction of essential oils and play an important role as a natural source of fragrances such as citral, citronellol and geraniol. Also the Wild Lemongrass care series by Urtekram refreshes body and senses with the scent of wild lemongrass.
