:

According to Greek mythology, Crete was long ago ruled by the powerful King Minos. The Minoan culture also owes its name to him. It originated almost 5,000 years ago and is considered the first advanced civilization in Europe. From Crete it spread over large parts of the Aegean Sea. The Minoans were the first Europeans with their own written characters. In addition, they were gifted engineers and builders. They built roads, laid canals and built a fleet that dominated the Hellenic Sea. The ruins of multi-storied palaces still bear witness to their wealth. However, the most famous building of Crete, a legendary labyrinth, has not yet been found.

In the culture of the Minoans, the bull has always played a central role. During the reign of King Minos, Crete is said to have been haunted by a giant with a bull's head. This "Minotaur" terrified the population. Nobody dared to stand up to him. King Minos therefore commissioned the master builder Daidalos to build a labyrinth in which the Minotaur could be imprisoned. After the monster had been lured into the stone maze, young boys and virgins were regularly thrown to him. To prevent an uprising, Minos wanted to conceal what was happening in the labyrinth. Therefore, he imprisoned Daedalus in a tower together with his son Icarus. However, the clever inventor immediately began to plan his escape.

The fleet of Minos controlled the sea, so escape across the water was impossible. One evening, when Daidalos saw a flock of birds flying over the sea, he had a bold idea. Using feathers and beeswax, he built two pairs of wings. When he was finished, he climbed to the top of the tower with his son. He told the boy not to fly too high, because the wax could melt in the sun. On the other hand, if they flew too low, the wings might become too heavy due to the humid sea air. With their wings spread, the two jumped from the tower and left Crete behind them. Just before they reached the mainland, however, Icarus became overconfident. He flew loops and spiraled higher and higher into the air. When he began to feel the proximity of the sun, it was too late. The feathers fell out of the softened wax and Icarus crashed over a small island. This was later named after him: Ikaria.

To this day, Icarus is one of the most famous figures in Greek mythology. However, no one has succeeded in reproducing the wings since ancient times. But one insight remains unchanged to this day: One should not stay too long in the blazing sun. Because sunburn is not only painful, it also leaves marks on the skin. For centuries, this was felt above all by the working population. The nobility avoided physical work outdoors in order to maintain a distinguished pallor. And since, beneath the white skin, the veins shone through in a bluish hue, aristocrats were said to have "blue blood. For a long time, paleness was a status symbol and ideal of beauty. This only changed in the course of the 20th century, when sun-tanned skin became associated with vitality and youthful joie de vivre. A vacation without sun is unimaginable for many people. Nevertheless, you should never spend too much time in the sun without sun protection. So that you can enjoy the sun from its beautiful side, Pharmos Natur has developed the Sun Harmony series.
