Natural soaps are traditionally made from plant oils and fats, often by hand. Nourishing additives such as additional plant oils, shea butter and beeswax help to restore the skin’s natural moisture. Herbs and spices can also be mixed in during the saponification process to add aroma and colour. Naturally pure essential oils provide an invigorating, soothing or refreshing scent.

What is the difference between natural soap and industrial soap?
Genuine natural soap is produced through the saponification of vegetable oils. The glycerine produced during saponification remains in the soap. Many industrial soap bars, on the other hand, are syndets – that is, synthetic soap bars produced without traditional saponification. They therefore differ in composition from traditional soap. Natural soap also usually has a higher pH value than syndets. At Violey, you will also find soap bars with moisturising additives, as well as varieties with a lower pH value.
Does bar soap dry out the skin?
That depends on the specific soap. Hard soaps are considered to be highly degreasing and can dry out the skin. Some natural soaps deliberately contain more oil than is necessary for the saponification process. This excess remains in the finished bar as free oil. Tip: Storing natural soap correctly
Natural soap lasts considerably longer if it is allowed to dry after use. A soap dish with a drainage hole or a soap pouch prevents the soap from becoming soggy. This keeps it firm and prevents it from becoming greasy. It is best to place your bar of soap out of the direct stream of water in the bath or shower.
Can you wash your hair with soap?
Yes, with special hair soaps. Ordinary body soap isn’t usually used for this, as it’s designed for a different purpose. Switching from liquid shampoo to hair soap can sometimes take a bit of getting used to. Your hair type, water hardness and the hair soap you choose can all affect how your hair feels after washing.
Is there natural soap without palm oil?
Yes. Palm oil is found in many soaps because it produces a firm, lathering soap. Palm oil is also used in natural cosmetic soaps due to its firm consistency, long shelf life and creamy lather. However, because of the destruction of rainforests to make way for conventional plantations, many organic and natural cosmetics manufacturers have now stopped using palm oil. Other brands in the organic sector pay close attention to the origin of their ingredients and use palm oil that is sourced from certified organic farming. Many customers prefer palm oil-free alternatives. These soaps are made using vegetable oils such as olive oil, coconut oil or sunflower oil.
