Does natural make-up last just as long as conventional make-up?
How long it lasts depends less on whether it is ‘natural or not’ than on the formulation and the application. Natural make-up does not contain long-chain silicones, which often give conventional products their extremely long-lasting wear. However, with the right primer and a setting powder, mineral foundations will also last all day. For very long wear times, a nourishing primer helps as a base.
What is mineral make-up and who is it suitable for?
Mineral make-up consists of finely ground mineral pigments such as zinc oxide and iron oxides, usually without any liquid binders. Mineral make-up feels light on the skin. It is considered pore-friendly and is therefore often used on blemish-prone or sensitive skin. Zinc oxide also provides light coverage for redness. The application takes a bit of practice: apply it in thin layers, not all at once. First cleanse your skin and, after applying moisturiser, allow it to absorb completely. Then place a small amount of powder into the lid and pick it up with a dense brush. For a flawless finish, tap the brush to remove any excess powder and blend it into the skin using gentle, circular movements.
Tip: Finding the right foundation shade
Always assess the colour in natural daylight. Artificial light can significantly alter the shade. Never test the colour on the back of your hand. The back of the hand often has a different shade to the face. A better option is the area where the jaw meets the neck. The right shade blends into the skin rather than forming a visible line. With natural make-up foundations, the range of colours is sometimes smaller than with conventional products, but two shades can be mixed together effectively.
Is natural make-up also suitable for sensitive eyes?
When it comes to mascara and eyeshadow, skin compatibility is particularly important because the skin around the eyes is thin and sensitive. Whilst natural cosmetics do not contain synthetic preservatives, they often contain essential oils, plant-based fragrances and natural preservatives, which can also irritate sensitive eyes. Anyone prone to eye irritation or who wears contact lenses should specifically look for fragrance-free products or those specially formulated for the eye area.
Is it easy to remove natural make-up?
Yes, and usually even more easily, as there are no waterproof silicone films to remove. A mild, plant-based cleansing oil or micellar water from the natural cosmetics range reliably removes make-up. With waterproof mascara, a little more patience is required: apply the make-up remover to a make-up remover pad, hold it against your eyelashes for a few seconds and let it work for a moment. To protect your eyelashes, you should always wipe the make-up off in one direction only. Avoid rubbing your eyelashes and the surrounding skin. After removing your make-up, cleanse your face and especially the eye area with clear water and a mild cleanser.
