Argan oil - which because of its precious ingredients and wonderfully beneficial effects is also known as "Morocco's liquid gold", is won from the fruit of the thorny argan tree. First of all the pulp is removed by hand. Then the hard nutshells are carefully cracked and the seeds inside removed and only the very best nuts are selected for gentle roasting and pressing. Gertraud Völkl, the founder of Lemaroc, chose the area around Essaouira for her precious Lemaroc argan oil. It was here that after months of searching and sampling she finally found argan seeds which were especially rich in character and which convey the nuances of the nutty flavour with unsurpassed finesse.

The local Berber women bring their harvest from the chosen area to collection points where the argan fruit is carefully selected by the Lemaroc representative according to stringent quality standards. He then brings the fruit to the women of his village to be crushed by hand according to the traditional methods. This enables the women to contribute to the family income while leaving them free to organise their own time. As they usually work in groups they are also able to draw strength from the contact and solidarity with other women. After the fruit has been crushed, the carefully separated seeds are forwarded to the argan oil producing Moroccon company founded by Gertraud Völkl. Here the argan seeds are once again sorted by hand as only the very best seeds are chosen for gentle roasting.

The heavy manual labour of pressing the oil by hand has been taken over by machines. This not only frees the women from the hardest aspect of the work, it also enables us to maintain a uniformly high standard of quality combined with optimal hygenic conditions. The oils are cold-pressed in order to preserve the full richness of their active ingredients and to pass on the natural flavour in all its purity.The oil used for cosmetic purposes is pressed from unroasted seeds.
