Kia Charlotta Vegan Nail Polish

:

Every woman in Germany owns, on average, four different nail polishes. The small colorful bottles are indispensable in the world of decorative cosmetics. The nail polish, as we know it today, only exists since around 100 years, though. The fact that nail polish nowadays is an essential part of basic cosmetic equipment is largely due to the commitment of three men. In 1932, the Revson brothers founded a cosmetics company with Charles Lachman. In a small apartment in New York, they mixed colored nail polish, which they then delivered to manicure studios and department stores. The three inventors had a very successful marketing strategy. They also offered lipsticks that matched the colors of the nail polishes. In the first half of the 20th century, America was much more prudish than today. At that time, women with red-painted nails still caused scandals in many places. In Hollywood, on the other hand, the colorful polish quickly became popular because of its sensational effect. Famous actresses consciously relied on the sensual combination of painted nails and painted lips. Through Hollywood divas like Rita Hayworth, nail polish has become not just a trend, but an indispensable fashion accessory.

Colored fingernails, however, are not a trend of the 20th century. During excavations on the banks of the Euphrates, archaeologists found a well-preserved antique manicure set whose age is estimated to 5,000 years. It contained nail care tools as well as black and green nail paint. In ancient Babylon, these were made from galena and other minerals containing lead. For the ancient Babylonians, painted fingernails were man's business. The rich and powerful painted their nails in dark colors or black to underline their social status. By contrast, less privileged men were predominantly wearing green shades.

Even in China colored fingernails signaled influence and prosperity for centuries. For this the nails were coated with a mixture of beeswax, protein and gum arabic. With flower petals different shades of color could be created. After several hours of drying, the fingernails were colored. The colors of the ruling emperor dynasty were always very trendy. At the time of the Chou Dynasty in the 7th century, the nobility decorated their fingernails with gold or silver dust. During the Ming Dynasty (1268-1644) artificial fingernails appeared for the first time. These were reinforced either with porcelain powder, silk or rice paper. This form of nail art was spread only among men at first, as well. In the following centuries oversized thimbles came up, which were used by both men and women. The long fingernail protectors made of gold and silver made manual labor almost impossible and became a status symbol for that very reason. Their wearers pointed out in this way that they had servants for every move and did not have to lift a finger by themselves.

Unlike in ancient China, beautiful nails and an active lifestyle are no longer a contradiction today. Nowadays, every imaginable color is available as a nail polish and most nail polishes dry a short time after application. Despite the enormous variety of colors, red and pink are still among the most popular ones. Even in the application, hardly anything has changed within the last decades. The biggest development took place when it comes to the ingredients. In the first half of the 20th century, synthetic ingredients were considered advanced. In times of vegan and organic nutrition, there is a clear trend towards natural cosmetic products. The search for compatible formulas led to the founding of the brand Kia-Charlotta in 2017. The cruelty-free cosmetics focus on vegan premium nail polishes.
