The five-leaved Jiaogulan (bot.: Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is a wild plant of the cucurbit family that is native to Asia. The name is derived from the Chinese word Xiancao which means as much as ”winding orchid tendrils“. From the wild-growing Jiaogulan creeper, which can reach up to eight meters in length, only the striking leaves with the five individual leaves are used.
