Eubiona Deo Roll-On

:

No sensation is as immediate as smell. That is why people were searching pleasant scents already in the Stone Age. First they decorated their homes with flowers and herbs. When these were dried up or withered, they were simply thrown into the fireplace. Here our ancestors discovered the different fragrances of smoke. Soon people were trying to propitiate their gods with fragrant incense materials. And thus in all high cultures of antiquity especially cedar wood, precious resins, myrrh and of course incense were burned. Some traditions report that during the heyday of Babylon, every year about 25,000 tons of incense were burned. And even the Romans let pleasant smelling substances rise up to their gods ”per fumum“ (through smoke). No wonder that the word perfume emerged from this Latin word.

But noble scents were not only used for ritual purposes in ancient times. Their seductive effects were already known in ancient Egypt. 3,500 years ago, the first fragrant ointments and oils for the rich upper class were created alongside the Nile. During Cleopatra's times already nearly 200 fragrances were known. The famous female pharaoh supposedly used them so cleverly that even the wind was quite intoxicated with love. In the ancient Orient anointing oils were an important commodity and worth as much as gold. In sealed bottles they were therefore often used as an investment.

In the early Middle Ages, herbs and flowers were used to extract concentrated essences for the first time in the Middle East. The art of distilling also made it possible to distil concentrated alcohol from wine. With this, the basis for modern perfumery was set. This knowledge came to Europe in the 12th century with the crusaders. With the founding of the French guild of glove and perfume masters in 1190, fragrance-mixing alchemists became respectable craftsmen. Their job was very important. Because in the High Middle Ages, many people assumed that pleasant scents could protect against diseases.

In the 16th century, the demand for high-quality perfume increased by leaps and bounds. Each protégé at the royal court wanted to smell good. Then as now, the first impression was often decisive. In the Baroque era everything was about the opulent display of splendour. Elaborate wigs and dresses became fashionable and those who could afford it were surrounded by a cloud of perfume. Only in the 19th century people were not trying to simply cover their body odor anymore because of new findings in hygiene research. Instead, they began to fight its causes. The body odor was combated with ammonia tinctures and people bathed more often. In the 1930s the first deodorants suitable for daily use came on the market.

The difference between deodorant and perfume is mainly the mode of operation. A perfume can only cover existing body odor. A deodorant, on the other hand, often influences the perspiratory gland activity or the microorganisms involved in odor formation. Sweat itself is odorless. Only when its components are metabolised by the bacteria on the skin, the typical ”smell of sweat“ emerges. Many deodorants still try to inhibit sweat production with the use of aluminium salts. Its potential side effects are questioned more and more critically, though. Therefore especially in the field of natural cosmetics they are often waived completely.
