Eubiona Aloe Vera
Those who are interested in natural cosmetics cannot get past the aloe vera. The grass tree plant is one of the most traditional medicinal plants ever. Already 6,000 years ago aloe vera has been cultivated by the ancient Egyptians. Its soothing gel was used for skin and hair care and was known as the ”blood of the gods“. In order to obtain the gel, one simply had to cut a leaf lengthwise. Subsequently the aloe vera gel could be scraped off. Female pharaohs such as Nefertiti and Cleopatra used it for beauty care. Over the centuries, the neighboring countries began to cultivate the valuable plant as well. Aloe vera started its victory march as a medicinal plant in the 4th century BC along with Alexander the Great. When he conquered the island Socotra in the Indian Ocean, he also ensured having the local aloe plantations. From then on, his troops always had full wagonloads of the plant with them for medical treatments. Via the Silk Road, the aloe later reached India and China.
In 1492, Christopher Columbus's search for the western sea route between Europe and India started. The ship's pharmacy also included some aloes that were planted in pots. Columbus never arrived in India but ended up in the Caribbean and later in Central America. When the Spaniards built the first settlements there, aloe veras were also planted. In the hot climate of Mexico, the plant felt extremely well. After a short time many local Indian tribes also used it. Until today, it is an important part of the local folk medicine. Because of this tradition the aloe vera is mistaken for an American plant by many people. The class of aloes comprises over 500 species. But the title ”Queen of Medicinal Plants“ is only carried by one of them: the Aloe Vera which is also known as True Aloe or Aloe Barbadensis Miller.
In the early 20th century the aloe vera shared the fate of many medicinal plants in Europe: It was largely ignored. The rapid technological development of this era caused a rather careless progress euphoria. Synthetically produced care products were regarded as modern and they were greatly demanded. The old home recipes with herbal ingredients, however, were dismissed as backward. Today this trend is reversed. Nowadays, the active ingredients in care products are being questioned critically. This applies especially for the ingredients based on mineral oil. Certified natural cosmetics consistently dispense with synthetic ingredients and rely entirely on the power of nature. For natural cosmetics, plants are used that have been proven to be successful for ages, especially the True Aloe. It also unfolds its beneficial effects in the Eubiona Aloe Vera Facial Care Line.
