In quiz shows they frequently ask the question of what is the largest sensory organ of the human. The answer is our skin with its surface of approximately two square meters. The sensory organs transmit stimulus information to the brain via the nervous system. Gentle stroking and pleasant touches are just as much part of it as unpleasant itching. Itching skin usually indicates hat it is too dry or unable to repel irritating substances.
Dry skin and symptoms of neurodermatitis can be soothed gently. Usually at first it helps to figure out if you ”only“ have dry skin or if you really have neurodermatitis. The dry skin type can be determined quickly: The skin feels tensed and itchy after cleansing when you put no cream on right away – regardless of the season. The cause of dry skin can be intense sunbathing, heating air, too hot baths or even a wrong care routine. But it can also be genetically determined or is related to age, since the production of sebum decreases over the years and the epidermis binds less moisture.
Anyone with neurodermatitis would prefer to exchange their skin, though. Any outbreak can be so agonizing. Red, scaly, irritable, thickened and often oozing skin and severe itching lead to a vicious cycle of itching and scratching. Neurodermatitis is a chronic skin disease in which the immune system is disturbed. You should track down the actual reasons for it together with your attending physician. Because they can be versatile: Negative stress, mental and emotional problems or intestinal diseases can be a trigger. That's why no cream in the world can cure neurodermatitis. But creams can help the skin to become more resilient and to regenerate better.
A troubled skin barrier needs a protective, skin-friendly care. Often, it is no longer able to compensate the loss of fat and moisture without help. Bacteria, allergens and fungi can easily get through the skin and cause inflammations. A long-term care with moisturizing, soothing and moisture-binding active ingredients from plant extracts and oils can be very effective because it gives the skin back its natural protective substances. Every vegetable oil has numerous skin-friendly ingredients. In the hydro lipid layer, the top layer of the skin, the sebaceous glands, produce partly exactly the substances that are found in vegetable oils from flowers, seeds and nuts: Triglycerides and the fatty acids contained therein such as linoleic and oleic acid as well as ceramides, lecithin and squalane. Borage seed oil mainly contains a high proportion of gamma-linolenic acid. It strengthens the skin barrier and thereby increases the skin’s elasticity and reduces the skin's water loss. Coupled with moisturizers such as urea, panthenol or glycerin dry skin can look smooth and even again with time. You should stay away from aggressive soaps, scrubs and alcoholic tonics. Body oils, which contain essential oils such as mint or eucalyptus are also not suitable for dry skin.
