If you ask in Africa about the secret of beautiful skin, there is only one answer: Shea butter. The yellowish-white vegetable oil is particularly rich and provides the skin with intensive moisture. It has been obtained from the fruits of the shea tree for many centuries. However, the valuable tree only grows in the so-called "Shea Belt", which stretches from Senegal to Ethiopia. Shea butter was produced in the savannahs of the Sahel zone as early as the 14th century. Since then, it has been considered an effective care product for dry and stressed skin. Some researchers even suspect that shea butter was used in Ancient Egypt. Could female pharaohs like Nefertiti, Tausret or Cleopatra have already taken care of their skin with shea butter? Two discoveries have been made in the past few decades to support this theory.

The Louvre's Egyptian collection contains sculptures that were most likely carved from the wood of the shea tree. However, because it does not grow in Egypt, it had to be imported from the kingdoms of the south. If the ancient Egyptians knew the wood of the shea tree, they probably also knew about its fruits. And as cosmetics specialists of antiquity, they would certainly have recognized their care potential. The analysis of 3,000-year-old mummies led to another interesting discovery: traces of a greasy hair gel with a high proportion of oleic and stearic acid were found in the hair of several mummies. It is entirely possible that this was already shea butter.

To this day there are no shea tree plantations. All attempts to cultivate these trees have been unsuccessful. New shea trees tend to germinate randomly. And even if they grow into a tree, it takes decades till they yield fruits. Therefore, almost all "shea nuts" come from wild collection. Traditionally, after they have been collected, they are dried, peeled and crushed. This mass is then mixed into a thick dough with the addition of water. Because of the high fat content, water and fat separate after a short time. The raw fat obtained in this way is then heated. The shea butter collects on the surface and can be skimmed off.

Today, shea butter is an important component of skin creams, lip balms, hair treatments and many other care products. In addition to natural care oils, the natural cosmetics brand Balmyou also has shea butter from shea trees of the Nilotica variety in its assortment. Classic shea butter comes from West Africa, Nilotica is the East African variant. Its typical odor is much milder, it melts at lower temperatures and is therefore better absorbed.

The balmyou Nilotica Shea Butter can be used as day and night care for face and body. Enjoy the unmistakable scent of nuts with a hint of chocolate. Arabica Coffee Oil is a revitalizing body and face oil to aid in the hydration of the skin, hair and scalp. balmyou Moringa Oil is a clarifying skin and hair oil. Due to the high proportion of behenic acid, it makes the skin feel smooth and supple. The oil can be applied pure to the skin or mixed with shea butter, for example.

The balmyou deodorant sticks remain firm at room temperature and become soft when applied to warm skin. This allows the deodorant to spread very well under the armpits. The three deodorants are free from aluminum salts and do not contain any alcohol. The balmyou Deodorant Stick Sensitive Only Five is a gently caring natural deodorant with only 5 ingredients: coconut oil, natron, shea butter, sunflower wax and moringa seed oil. While the deodorant stick cedar orange smells warm and woody of cedar and orange, the deodorant stick cypress rosemary exudes on the fresh and spicy scent of cypress and rosemary.
