Matcha, Japanese for ‘ground tea’, is a finely ground powder made from green tea. It is made from leaves that are shaded before they are harvested. This elaborate process enhances the flavour, caffeine content and deep green colour. The Arche measuring spoon makes it easy to scoop out even the smallest amounts of the powder. After a portion has been placed in the beautifully shaped matcha bowl, water at around 80°C is poured in – as with any green tea, hotter water should be avoided. The tea is then whipped with a bamboo whisk until frothy. With a little practice, an even foam is created that completely covers the tea. After that, the matcha can be enjoyed in small sips.
