Annemarie Börlind Peeling
We lose up to 40,000 skin flakes every minute. And since they are so tiny and unrecognizable to the naked eye, we do not even notice them. Nevertheless, every human loses a few grams of the uppermost layer of the skin every day. In the course of life almost 300 kg of dander come together. But we do not see it or feel anything about it. In order to optimally fulfill its important role as a protective barrier, our skin renews itself permanently. Through the continuous production of new cells, the skin protects us from environmental influences, the ingress of water, dirt, microbes and much more.
Our epidermis is divided into five layers. The lowest level of the epidermis is the basal layer. Here the new cells of the epidermis are formed. The fresh cells migrate into the overlying spinous layer. Here, the cells begin to form resilient horn. The next stop is the granular layer, where the cells produce fats and proteins. After passing the translucent layer, the cells have finally reached their final destination: the cornified layer. The keratinized cells die in this layer. The fats and proteins they excrete act like mortar, which keeps the skin cells together. As soon as new cells move on from below, the upper horn cells descale. The cells need about 28 days to travel from the basal layer to the skin surface. So our epidermis is completely renewed every month.
If dander does not fall off by itself, horny and rough areas can form. So that the skin feels nice and smooth again, you can rub off dead skin cells with a peeling. This stimulates the blood circulation of the skin and supports its absorption capacity for creams and lotions. Body scrubs were already known in ancient Egypt. Wealthy women smoothed their skin with a mixture of salt, oil and alabaster. Those who could not afford this beauty treatment used sand and water. In the Orient, peeling has been part of the bathing and care culture for ages: In the hammam, the Turkish bath house, one could rub off annoying skin flakes already centuries ago using a massage glove made of goat hair. In Western Europe, on the other hand, body exfoliations were not used until the middle of the 20th century.
Today, the peeling of the skin is an established care ritual over here as well. However, there are different varieties. The mechanical peeling is the oldest and also the most common form of peeling. It removes old skin flakes by abrasive grains, for example from fruit cores, salt or sugar crystals and in conventional cosmetics often by the use of microplastics. For heavily impure and sensitive skin, many people use an enzyme peeling. In this variant, enzymes are used to remove cornifications of the epidermis. Peelings with fruit acid go even deeper than abrasive grains or enzymes. Chemical scrubs are the most aggressive ones, but also those with the strongest effect. Fruit acids can refine the skin, but can also irritate the facial skin massively. Fruit acid scrubs for home use are therefore dosed in much small quantities than fruit acid scrubs of professional experts.
For the skin care at home, Annemarie Börlind has developed three naturally effective peelings. They free the skin of cornifications, clear the complexion and make it appear fresher. According to your individual needs, you can choose between Exfoliating Peel, Enzyme Peeling Powder and Fruit Acid Exfoliant. The creamy Annemarie Börlind Exfoliating Peel removes dead skin cells and refines minor skin irregularities and pores with natural jojoba wax globules. The Annemarie Börlind Enzyme Peeling Powder without mechanical peeling particles dissolves dead skin cells with natural enzymes and activates the cell renewal of the skin. Certified organic aloe vera provides the skin with additional amino acids, vitamins and minerals. The Annemarie Börlind Fruit Acid Exfoliant Gel gently exfoliates the face with a natural fruit acid mix of blueberry, maple and plant extracts and stimulates the skin renewal process. The innovative peeling textures by Annemarie Börlind are free from microplastics. The effective natural cosmetics products support a fresh and even complexion.
