alviana Baby Care

:

He loves me, he loves me not…quite everyone has once tried to find out which feelings the adored one really has by plucking flower leaves. This “oraculating” with bright-yellow, up to 4 centimetres wide flower heads of calendula is not at all an invention of our times. Already a thousand years ago, the ancient Germans adored calendula as a holy plant of goddess Freya by putting the plant into the centre of many love rituals. A salve made of calendula, honey, vinegar and summer herbs was expected – together with proper payers – to conjure up wonderful dreams of the big love. If one wanted more security, calendula seed was thrown onto the footprints of the loved one. If a calendula plant grew from one of these seeds this love would last forever, people believed. The farmers had a more practical interest in calendula: they used the plant to predict weather. If the flower heads were open around 6 o’clock, a sunny day was expected, but if they were still closed at 7, people expected rain.

The scholars of antiquity and the Middle Ages, in turn, used calendula for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases. While the juice of the pressed flowers was preferably administered for internal healing, the extracts of the marigold are mostly used externally today. Over the course of many centuries, the calendula has also been called goldflower, marigold rose, marigold, ringula, ringella, rainflower and sunflower in various regions. These trivial terms have since been upgraded to the scientific name Calendula officinalis. Calendula comes from the Latin calendis (months). This refers to the long flowering period from June to October already in the name. Officinalis means that it is a medicinal or healing plant. "Offizin" has been the term for pharmacies in the late Middle Ages.

Calendula has also been an indispensable ingredient in natural cosmetics for quite a while.
