followfood Tinned Tuna Naturell. This tuna comes from what is arguably one of the most sustainable fishing methods: rod and line, also known as ‘pole and line’. The tuna are caught individually using traditional fishing rods. Instead of electronic aids, flocks of birds show the fishermen where the tuna are to be found. Processing takes place directly on site on the small island of Maandhoo.
Among other things, this offers quality benefits, as the tuna can be processed whilst still fresh from the catch. Pole-and-line fishing stands in stark contrast to industrial, environmentally destructive fishing practices.
