Botanically, this small, amber-coloured berry belongs to the rose family and the Rubus genus, which also includes berries such as raspberries and blackberries. While the roots of these robust yet sensitive plants can survive even severe frost, the parts above ground often freeze to death even with light snowfall. They also react capriciously to frosty nights before flowering and generally refuse to sprout. Cloudberry extract is obtained from the fruits of the cloudberry.
