Heuschrecke Organic Whole Nutmegs. Whole nutmegs preserve the essential oils inside until they are freshly grated, when they release their full flavour. The intensely warm, spicy flavour of nutmeg is somewhat reminiscent of cinnamon or cloves. A subtle sweetness meets a delicate spiciness.

Nutmegs consist largely of fatty and essential oils. When this oil seeps to the surface and dries, a light-coloured layer often forms. A light, whitish coating, the characteristic marbling and dark spots are, in natural whole nutmegs, evidence of a high, natural oil content and of good quality. The special drying technology used to protect against aflatoxins causes the nuts to shrink slightly.

Store in a dry place, away from light and heat.
